“In 2007, I received the most devastating news. My husband at that time was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. What made it worst was that the cancer had spread to other parts in his body. Two years later in 2009, he passed away, leaving me and his then 7 year old son. What was I going to do was my thought. Eventually, in 2010 I got a job working for New York State. As soon as I thought that things were getting better, in 2011 NYS had a workforce reduction which affected me. At first, what I thought was a curse was actually a blessing.
